Huanghuacheng Great Wall

Xishuiyu Great Wall

One Day Hiking from Huanghuacheng to Xishuiyu Great Wall

Different from other sections of the Great Wall, Huanghuacheng and Xishuiyu Great Wall are featured not only for their mountain scenery, but also the elegance with water. Take this hiking tour to experience another kind of the beauty of the Great Wall.

This day tour can be called one day mountain and water Great Wall tour, since you may visit not only the sheer Great Wall, but also the different mountain and water scenery.

For the transportation, of course, chartering a car is the most convenient way since you do not need to be bothered how to connect with the local transportation. But the local transportation is still favored by many people, for its economical aspect. Here, we kindly suggest you make full preparation and plan a detailed route if you want to connect the local buses, for one day may not be enough if you waste time on the way.

Huanghuacheng, Huanghua in Chinese meaning yellow flower, got its name because of the yellow flowers will be blooming all over the mountains and plains in midsummer. This section of the wall is completely unrestored and still remains its plain character all the time.

Huairou district located 30 kilometers east of Being, and the transfer to Huanghuacheng Great Wall needs about one and a half hours. Huanghuacheng was built in Ming Dynasty and the water divided the wall into three parts subtly. Once you are there, the first you will see is a reservoir and you can spare some time to visit its dam. Then start your hike from now on. The wall stretches to two different direction, and please hike to the westward to Xishuiyu direction. The first part of the hike is very steep and you may follow the trail on the wall. After about one and a half hour, you may reach the first watch tower on the cliff, where you may see the moon-shaped reservoir far below, and it is also a great place to take some photos. Then continue your hiking for another half an hour to the highest point, from where you can have a panorama of the mountain valley.

Between Huanghuacheng and Xishuiyu Great Wall, locates a village named Zhuangdaokou, if you do not want to climb the wall, then walk for about 20 minutes to Xishuiyu village and finish today's hiking. But it does not mean that your tour can come to an end, if you are interested and time permits, you can visit the Heilongtan Canyon, and this part of visit may be more relaxed. Hilongtan Canyon is a scenery area composed of incomplete Great Wall and the pond. Here, no artificial trail and crowded visitors, this area still keeps its natural characteristics.

If you are still energetic, continue your hike from Zhangdaokou village to the west direction. Please be very carefully, you need to climb upwards along the broken wall and then reach a tall cliff from where you may overlook the Xishuiyu Lake. Spend sometime here is really worthwhile, since the scenery here is really breathtaking, the broken wall running into the lake directly, and you can not see this kind of scenery in any other parts of the Great Wall.

Today's hiking should be stopped here since the road towards is really broken and loose, it is not safe to continue hiking. Instead, you may follow the mountain trail down to the Xishuiyu Village, and where you may take car back to Beijing.
