Total Body Fitness (TBF) will stage its ninth annual Ice Breaker Triathlon at Folsom Lake on Sunday, April 19. The main event-a half mile swim, followed by 13 miles on a bike and a 4-mile run-will start at 9 a.m. A shorter Super Sprint Triathlon will beging an hour earlier.
Saturday TBF Ice Breaker events will be duathlons that will keep athletes out of the chilly waters of Folsom Lake. They will run 4 miles, pedal bikes 13 miles, and then run another 4 miles in the Super Sprint Duathlon at 8 a.m. A shorter Sprint Duathlon will follow at 9 a.m. with distances cut in half. This will be the 11th year for the duathlons which started the Ice Breaker tradition in 1999.
Race director Bill Driskell expects some 700 athletes to participate in the weekend events at Granite Beach on Folsom Lake. Driskell reports, “The lake is higher for this year’s events than it has been since 2004.”
Total Body Fitness was started by Driskell and partner Mark Shaw in Rocklin in 1991. They are organizers of TBF Racing events and specialize in multi-sport training, racing and adventure travel organization. Their goal is to educate, motivate and promote multisport as a lifestyle.
