Preserve America's Hiking Trails

The American Hiking Society (yes, there is such a thing) is, as you can guess, dedicated to protecting and promoting America’s hiking trails. In an effort to support this mission, they offer volunteer vacations where participants maintain and build new trails around the country.

Volunteer Teams work in diverse locations across the country like the Chugach National Forest in Alaska, the Canaan Valley National Wildlife Refuge, West Virgina and the Columbia River Gorge in Oregon. Trips range from easy to strenuous and typically last about one week.

Depending on the location, volunteers may stay in cabins or at a base camp where they will need to provide their own camping gear. The cost of a first trip with the American Hiking Society is $245, each additional trip is $175.
