Women's Travel Company Offers World's Hardest Adventure Trek

Adventures in Good Company, a tour operator that specializes in women's adventure travel, is organizing the first women-only attempt of the Snowman Trek in October. This remote Himalayan route in Bhutan, which takes 25 days and climbs nine passes over 15,500 feet, is widely regarded as the most difficult commercial trek in the world.

Although several outfitters offer the Snowman Trek, this October is the first time that a women's travel company has included it on their calendar. Many women prefer all women's travel companies for the camaraderie and support that often develops on an all-women trip, but other companies focus on softer adventure.

"Not this trip," says Marian Marbury, founder of Adventures in Good Company. "We offer less difficult trips too, but this will be the kick butt adventure of a lifetime!"

The idea was hatched during Adventure in Good Company's first trek in Bhutan in 2007, when they did the 8-day Jumolhari route. "Several of us just weren't ready for the trek to end," explains Marbury. "We fell in love with the people we met and the land we were trekking through, and we wanted even more physical challenge. Plus this year is our 10th anniversary, and we wanted to celebrate the milestone by attempting something more challenging than any women's travel company has ever offered."

The trek is scheduled for October 2 - 28, 2009 and costs $6060, not including airfare. It is appropriate only for women in extremely good physical condition with previous hiking experience and a good sense of humor.
