Biking and Hiking in China

A trip from January 18, 2008 to December 31, 2008, travelling to Shanghai, Suzhou, Sanya, Changzhou, Dali …
Here is a part of our trip:

SHANGHAI CITY——1 Day  BIKING ADVENTURE

THE LOST CULTURE

Whether you are new to Shanghai or a resident of this dynamic city, you are sure to have experienced the difficultly of finding your way through the crazy traffic, winding streets and obnoxious horns. Well fear not, because even though it can be difficult to find at times, Shanghai is actually loaded with culture. Experience the peace of old historic houses and local living quarters nestled in winding back streets; visit alleys and areas that are a mix of history, war and art; taste the local foods from street vendors and other local haunts; cross the Huangpu ferry or get lost in the gardens of Yuyuan…the sky is the limit.

TOUR DESCRIPTION

We will start the ride along the Suzhou creek, a local barge transportation vein that crosses Shanghai, before our first stop near the Moganshan Art galleries. There we will taste a local and wonderfully fresh pancake. We will spend a few moments cruising the lazy art avenue building and stop at one of the local Art galleries before moving on. Our next stop will pass us through the Famous Cloth market “7P Rd” with quick stop to try some of the hot local snacks before we head south to the famous Yuyuan gardens!

This section of the ride will pass near The Bund before winding into the old dark alleys and through the lives of the locals.  See small stores, houses, mah-jongg rooms, all packed into areas that will make you forget that you are standing in the center of a modern city.

After a stop at a local Dumpling restaurant we pass the former houses of Dr. Sun Yatsen and Zhou Enlai before ending our day with a cup of coffee or tea at a small local cafe in the French concession. We’re sure to leave you with enough to shower and rest before your evening activities.
