Seeking a Global Standardized for Solutions to Global Warming

Documenting Glacial Recession/global warming and first descent of 20,000ft peak in Pakistan

Greetings from Alison Gannett’s Global Cooling Tour, and special thanks to Osprey for helping teach thousands of individuals, businesses and governments on solutions to climate change. I for one, love to play in the ecosystems of this beautiful planet – whether I’m running, biking, boating, skiing, hiking or just waltzing in the mountains. In fact, the urgency for this tour comes from a love of this planet, and my unrelenting need to make a difference in saving these ecosystems for the next generations. So for the last 20 years, I’ve been documenting climate change on my ski expeditions around the world, and, even more importantly working on global cooling solutions, in a format that is easy to implement and understand.

On Jan 20th, we finished converting a Ford Escape Hybrid (HEV), to a plug-in-hybrid (PHEV) that gets over 100 mpg, and is charged by a solar electric system on the roof of my straw bale home. I’ve been on the road ever since, on the Global Cooling Tour, speaking around the country and around the world on my global warming documentation ski expeditions and solutions. The vehicle is an instant magnet wherever I go – even getting a cup of coffee is not easy, as I’m barraged with questions on how to get such great mileage. As the gas prices creep even higher, the questions started coming less from the enviro crowd and more from everyday people – especially those driving Tahoe’s and Expeditions!!!

The whole idea behind the Global Cooling Tour and working with Osprey was to show people what is possible – walking the talk. My presentations and workshops show people real live examples of solutions that work, and an easy four step framework that not only can save the planet, but also saves governments, businesses and people money. Osprey is a prime example of a company walking the walk – with its green facilities in Colorado, to its employee alternative transportation initiatives, and my favorite of all – the Resource pack line. How cool is it that my courier bag is made out of almost all recycled materials, and looks so hot!

The Global Cooling Tour is a lifelong mission, but this year we have worked in some cool places – Poland, Austria, Switzerland, Wyoming, NY, Massachusetts, Oregon, Washington, Maryland, California, Colorado, Texas, El Salavador, Nicaragua, and even got to document glacial recession first hand in Pakistan while making a first ski descent. Outside Magazine, honored me, as I was selected as a Green All-Star, next to Leonardo DiCaprio and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The vehicle and the tour have also been reaching some great folks and media – including working with Tom Bergeron of Dancing with the stars, Jeff Probst of Survivor, and Robert Redford’s Sundance Channel. And to top it all off, I was selected to train Al Gore’s Climate Project staff on solutions to climate change. What a year!

So I hope everyone can follow Osprey’s example, and make some simple changes in your life to save some cash and protect our snow and water. All you have to remember is four easy letters – CROP:

C – Calculate your carbon footprint –

R – Reduce your carbon footprint –

O- Offset your carbonfootprint – calculate and reduce first

P – Produce your own energy – after reducing your footprint by 50%, then install solar electric, solar hot water, micro hydro, wind, ground source heat pump, etc.

This simple framework works in any situation - one can CROP™ a product, such as a bottle of water, or an event such as a wedding, a business conference or a sporting event. One can CROP™ a home or business or CROP™ your community, state or federal government. Those that use the CROP™ framework for their personal lives, business or government are showing a systematic commitment to tackling climate change. Another advantage in measureable reductions, and green authentic marketingThis framework can also help anyone to be a concious consumer, as you can filter out greenwashing - those events, businesses, and governments that are not addressing each letter of CROP™, are not truely addressing climate change comprehensively. This seminar will show you how to use the CROP™framework for individuals, businesses, events, communities and governments, so that we can demystify the global cooling process.
