The 3rdSailing tour of New Caledonia will start on September 9th, 2012 off Noumea. The 600nm race is similar in character to the Sydney to Hobart, taking approximately 5 days to complete in tricky weather conditions.
Weather forecasting strategy and physical fitness of the teams will play an important role in the final victory. New Caledonia is oriented in the direction of the Southeast trade winds. The fleet will have a 300nm downwind run followed by 300nm upwind beat to the finish.
The first entry from Australia and New Zealand will be given free entry and a free marina berth between June and September.
The course goes along the reef of an exceptional beauty and in a lagoon, which is registered, on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
