PEI's Gallant rink wins World Curling Tour event

The Brett Gallant rink of the Charlottetown Curling Club downed the Brad Gushue rink of St. John's, N.L., 5-4 in the final of the Challenge Casino de Charlevoix curling bonspiel in Clermont, Que.

It was Gallant's first win this season on the Asham World Curling Tour. Gallant and third Eddie MacKenzie, second Anson Carmody and lead Alex MacFadyen won the $12,000 first prize for their efforts.

Gallant crew's scored three in the sixth end and held on as Gushie scored singles in the seventh and eighth ends for the win.

Gushie downed Mike McEwen of Winnipeg, Man., in one semifinal to reach the final while Gallant beat Pierre Charette of Saguenay, Que., in the other semifinal.

Islander Adam Casey is a member of the Gushue rink.
