Located in northern China, home to several Olympic gold medalists and also home to some of the best skiing in China, Harbin is the winter destination of choice for many Chinese people each year. Local foods and a hint of European flavor also make Harbin a popular tourist destination. With a population of 10 million within 53,000 square kilometers of land, Harbin is the second largest provincial capital and is also home to many winter celebrations such as the Snow Sculpture Expo and Ice & Snow World, Winter Universiade, Asian Winter Games and, one of the most famous, the International Ice and Snow Festival, which attracts over 450,000 participants each year. 
 
In 2012, World Snow Day will be added to Harbin’s celebrations of winter. The event will be staged in two locations, Harbin Central and Yabuli. The World Snow Day celebration in Yabuli will be set in the heart of the Yabuli Ski Resort and will be comprised of various family and childrens’ activities designed for them to explore, enjoy and experience the snow. The main event in Harbin will be staged in the Botanical Gardens. There the event will be comprised of kids’ skiing lessons, snow fun games and a family snow sculpture contest which, if it is anything like the International Ice and Snow Festival, is sure to be spectacular.
