(Newsdesk) The Polar Vehicle with Jason and team reached the South Pole today after 1 day 15 hours and 54 minutes.
With parts of the communications tech set up by ExWeb sponsor HumanEdgeTech, "We have put in almost 2,000 hours of design and build time on it," Jason de Cateret told ExplorersWeb in an interview. "The cab was totally stripped out and enforced to create a survival cell if the worst encounter becomes a reality, and we go into a crevasse."
Skiers in from 85 degrees
Felicity Ashton is 3 nautical miles from the Pole at the time of this update and unless she decides to spend the night on the ice she will be reach the South Pole in about 3 hours. Christian Eide's team reached the pole last night.
Felicity started out on Ross Ice Shelf November 26 at around 85.15 degree South. On December 20 she will have skied a little over 500 km to reach the Pole after 25 days.
Also Eide's team chose this starting point, which is the shortest route from the coast to the South Pole (compare to 1100 km from Hercules inlet). From the pole, Felicity plans to kite back.
