The Life Flight Trust has this afternoon flown an injured quad bike rider to Wellington Hospital.

At approximately 1.00pm this afternoon the Life Flight Trust was responded to a report of a quad bike that had rolled and trapped the rider underneath, on a farm between Riversdale and Castle Point, Wairarapa.

Life Flight responded with a Wellington Free Paramedic on board the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

The patient, a 55 year old local man, had reportedly been trapped underneath his machine for approximately 1 hour, after it rolled approximately 5 metres down a bank. He was found by passing locals who were able to move the bike off the injured rider and then call for help.

On arrival of the helicopter a Wairarapa ambulance crew were attending to the injured man.

After being given pain relief the man was flown by helicopter to Wellington Hospital Emergency Department, where is being assessed for possible chest injuries.
