Team Sanya overnight continued to battle confused seas and big waves on their way to the finish line of the first stage of Leg 2 of the Volvo Ocean Race. Team Sanya are heading for the Indian Ocean safe haven port.

Wearied by sleep deprivation from the slamming conditions, the crew nevertheless remain in good form according to the latest report from Media Crew Member (MCM) Andrés Soriano:

Another day, and were still beating upwind.

'I have done more upwind leading up to this race, and in this race, then I did in the last edition,' remarked Richard Mason.

Everyone is in the best mood as can be, it’s been four days and we really haven’t churned up the miles like we had hoped. Sleeping has been pretty hard with the slamming and the confused seas make it even harder to avoid every wave.

Ryan Houston related it to 'driving on the roads in Madagascar and making sure that you hit every single pot hole.'

Last night was the first night that we saw stars and they lit up the sky for a few hours before a gorgeous full moon took over. The light certainly helped the helmsman see the waves a bit better and full moon sailing is generally a treat.

The mood remains positive, but slightly apprehensive, as we are keen to end Leg 2 and prepare for what is a big Leg 3 for us. There isn’t a team member who doesn’t want to play their part in making the Sanya stopover one to remember for many editions of the race to come.

Needless to say there is certainly a lingering energy that surrounds our homecoming.

Off to make breakfast and in for a few hours of sleep, I hope…
