The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a Hollister man in his 20s who reportedly fell off a cliff while hiking and climbing in the mountains of Pacheco Pass on Sunday.
Authorities say two Hollister men in their early 20s were climbing rocks and cliffs in the area known as "Bell Station" in unincorporated southern Santa Clara County starting bout 9 a.m. Sunday.
At about 4:38 p.m., sheriff's deputies responded to reports that two hikers had fallen, one suffering major injuries.
Sheriff's deputies, with the help of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, located one of the hikers near the bottom of the cliff. The man died at the scene.
The second hiker was taken to a hospital.
Santa Clara County Sheriff's detectives do not believe the man's death was suspicious but are still investigating to confirm it was accidental.
The identities of both hikers are being withheld.
