Police could not say how far down the drop was.

Two other climbers came across the scene and tried to help, said Christine Coulombe, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec.

A woman went for help on foot while the others stayed with the man.

Police weren't notified until 9 p.m. ET, she said.

"It's an isolated area and the woman who left on foot to get help had a long distance to walk," Coulombe said.
