WEDNESDAY, CHELTENHAM: A century ago Captain Scott and his team made their heroic but doomed expedition to the South Pole.
One of the team was Cheltenham-born Dr Edward Wilson, scientific officer and talented artist.
Wilson died alongside the others and his contribution to expedition art and scientific discoveries will be celebrated in two talks next week.
The 13th Annual De Ferrieres Lecture at the Bacon Theatre introduces the science, faith and art of Dr Wilson by his great-nephew Dr David Wilson.
A noted polar historian, Dr Wilson will guide the audience through his great-uncle's work, while adding a personal dimension.
Tickets cost £8 from 01242 258002.
WEDNESDAY TO SATURDAY, CHELTENHAM:
Meanwhile at The Everyman Theatre, The Final Journey of Edward Wilson will be played out from Wednesday for four nights.
The new play looks at Dr Wilson's life and work as an explorer, naturalist and artist through his encounter with a mysterious figure who is to take him on one last journey.
