A Gold River man was trapped in snow and died Sunday on a ski run at Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort.
Yiwei Hu, 54, of Gold River, was found by other skiers about 1:43 p.m. in an expert ski area in the Castle Creek area of the resort, said El Dorado County Sheriff's Lt. Tim Becker in a statement.
Skiers told deputies and volunteer searchers that Hu had fallen into a deep hole created by an underflow of water. Hu was not breathing when he was found and could not be revived by rescuers.
Nearly an hour later at Kirkwood Mountain Resort near South Lake Tahoe, a skier was taken to a hospital after being injured in a small avalanche, the Associated Press reported. Resort spokesman Michael Dalzell told the AP he did not know the extent of the skier's injury.
