Otonga School's Henry Booker climbed his way to second place at the National Rock Climbing Championships.

The up-and-coming climber impressed family and onlookers at the Auckland event last weekend competing in the under-12 boys category.

The 8-year-old beat away competition from older climbers to pick up his silver medal.

Henry placed third in the extreme edge section of the competition and second in the speed climbing section which was enough to give him a  silver medal for his overall performance.

Henry loves to climb and is a member of the Rotorua Climbing Club, learning most of his skills at The Wall Indoor Rock Climbing facility in  Rotorua.
