CAMP DENALI, Alaska -- An Alaska Air National Guard helicopter has rescued a 25-year-old hiker who was trapped on a ledge at
the 500-foot level of a box canyon near Whittier Glacier, about 45 miles southeast of Anchorage.
Alaska State Troopers called for the helicopter Tuesday night after exhausting other options to rescue the unidentified man.
The rescue involved a 200-foot hoist.
Whittier police say two of their officers and a fireman used lights to guide the helicopter crew to the ledge.
The hiker was flown to the Whittier police station. He did not need any medical treatment.
