Woods walk and rock climbing at Ballykeeffe
TIME: 04:37PM Friday August 31,2012
FROM:kilkennypeople

It’s coming to the end of the season in Ballykeeffe with just two events to go.

The first of these is a free event and takes place this Saturday, when all are invited to join local herbalist Jenny Dunne as she takes a “Walk on the Wild Side” through Ballykeeffe Wood.

Participants can find and learn to recognise the myriad of healing plants that grow freely in the countryside. The walk begins at 2pm and 4pm. Admission is free.

The final event of 2012 will then take place in Ballykeeffe on Saturday and Sunday. Participants can join with climbers from all over Ireland and abroad as they test their abilities on the face of Ballykeeffe Quarry. Attendees might just want to sit and watch or you might decide to try it for yourself, as expert tuition will be at hand.

Barbecue food will be available on Saturday evening and this will be followed by an illustrated talk from well-known journalist, TV presenter and adventurer Dermot Somers. Dermot has presented many travel and adventure programmes for TG4 and RTE, taking in places as diverse as Siberia, The Sahara, Nepal and Iran.

His presentation will address his climbs and travels worldwide.

The event begins at 8pm, and admission is €5.

The climbing will continue on Sunday and at 2.30pm there will be a concert by the Upper Rhine Youth Wind Band, a 50-strong symphonic wind band that combines classical symphonic pieces with contemporary favourites. The show is at 2.30pm and admission is €5.
