Camping Popular in Great Falls for Labor Day Weekend
TIME: 05:39PM Monday September 03,2012

Even though Labor Day technically isn't until Monday, most families take advantage of a three day weekend and travel. Joel Hunt, Manager of the Great Falls KOA, says, “Labor Day is the last weekend of the year to really get out, enjoy the warm weather and spend some time with your family”.

The Gunness family came all the way from Alberta, Canada to get some back to school shopping done. Cory Gunness says they’re here “for school supplies and school clothes. The kids like the clothes here and it’s cheaper”.

Labor Day has become more than a day off work. Instead of using the day off to do nothing, many take the opportunity to spend quality time with family before the busyness of fall begins. Gunness says, “get the last camping weekend away in before school starts up and the busy schedule starts again”.

Although business is down a little compared to last year, the Great Falls KOA is still busy. Hunt says, “just in the last couple days we've had a lot of new reservations come in and we ended up being pretty full for the weekend”.

Great Falls KOA has loyal local customers that like being close to home, but still away from their everyday lives. Others travel from as far as Canada each year for Labor Day weekend. Hunt says it’s because of “our facilities and the activities we offer. We have the playground and the water park. We have a nature walk”.

This is the Gunness' first time at a KOA. They say everything’s been great and they'll be back. Gunness says, “swimming has been good. We've been swimming everyday”.

KOA's busiest weekends are Memorial Day weekend, 4th of July, and of course Labor Day weekend. This is their last busiest weekend before winter hits.

Even though summer is almost over, the Great Falls KOA is open year round, so this doesn't necessarily have to be your last weekend to enjoy the great outdoors.
