Biking Challenge to benefit Shaw House
TIME: 01:53PM Wednesday September 12,2012
FROM:Bangor Daily News

BANGOR, Maine — Cyclists will pedal in support of the second annual Shaw House Challenge on Saturday, Sept. 15. Rain date is Sunday, Sept. 16. Organizers invite riders and sponsors to participate. Monetary donations will be accepted.

Last year more than 30 cyclists and three support vehicles trekked the 42-mile course to raise more than $20,000 to benefit Shaw House, which helps support homeless youth in the Bangor region.

Bikers will have the option of a 48-mile scenic ride or a 15-mile route. Riders will begin and end at 136 Union St. in Bangor, head through the downtowns of Bangor, Orono and Old Town, take a trip around Pushaw Lake and end at the Shaw House. Dubbed as the “flattest ride in Maine,” organizers said the route is for cyclists at any level.

Check in is at 7:30 a.m. with cash drawings and silent auctions before the ride begins at 8:30 a.m. Rest stops with bathrooms, and food and drinks will be available. Bicycle technicians from Rose Bike will be on hand to help with technical difficulties. Course information, including the route, interactive map and elevation is posted at challenge.theshawhouse.org.
