Bart Jarmula takes third at season-ending adventure race

Revelstoke’s Bart Jarmula capped off an impressive season with a third place overall finish at the season-ending Coast Mountain Sports Mind Over Mountain Adventure Race in Cumberland, B.C. last weekend.

Competing in the 50 kilometre Enduro event, Jarmula was bested only by hometown favorite Jeremy Grasby, of Cumberland, who finished first overall in a time of 4:28:30; and Team Frontrunners, consisting of Norman Thibault of Nanaimo and Graham Cocksedge of Powell River, B.C., who finished second overall.

“It was one of the closest and most exciting finishes with the top four teams all within two and a half minutes of each other,” says Race Director, Bryan Tasaka. “When they went into the final Orienteering stage, it was anyone’s guess who would come out first.”

There were 360 participants in the Sept. 26 race, competing either solo or in teams of two or four.

The race involved kayaking on Comox Lake and mountain biking, trekking, and orienteering on the Cumberland trails. Earlier this summer, Jarmula won the Squamish leg of the race.

After the race it was announced that participants and volunteers helped raise $3,200 this year for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, an organization that helps grant wishes to kids with terminal illnesses.
