Fishing report for Aug. 30

Missouri

•  SMITHVILLE: 78 degrees, clear, 11/2 feet low. Outlook: Burton’s Bait and Tackle reports: bass good on Brush Hogs, jigs, square-billed crankbaits in the brush and timber and on plastic frogs in the vegetation; crappies good on minnows 8 feet down in 10 to 20 feet of water in the main-lake brush; channel catfish good on chicken liver, stink baits in the shallows; white bass fair on Rat-L-Traps, Road Runners off windy main-lake points.

•  BULL SHOALS: 85 degrees, clear, 4 feet low. Outlook: 125 Marina reports: walleyes good on bottom-bouncing rigs with worms in 40 to 50 feet of water; channel catfish good on trotlines, juglines with cut bait, green sunfish in 10 to 15 feet of water; bass good early on topwater lures and later in the day on jigs, trick worms in 15 to 20 feet of water.

•  STOCKTON: 75 degrees, clear, 5 feet low. Outlook: Stockton Lake Guide Service reports: walleyes good on jigs, night crawlers in 6 to 14 feet of water off points; bass fair on crankbaits, jigs in 8 to 12 feet of water off secondary points; crappies fair on jigs, minnows in 15 feet of water in the brush; white bass excellent where surfacing on the flats in the evening.

•  TRUMAN: 78 degrees, clear to stained, 11/2 feet low. Outlook: Rocky Top reports: hybrids, white bass good in the evening on spoons, crankbaits at the weir and off points G-10 and G-4; crappies fair on jigs, minnows in the morning in the timber; bass fair early on crankbaits, jig-and-pigs in the flooded willows and lily pads; catfish fair. Below the dam: catfish good on liver, night crawlers in the evening.

•  TABLE ROCK: 81 degrees, clear, 7 feet low. Outlook: White River Lodge reports: bass, catfish good on night crawlers, shiners in 28 to 36 feet of water off long points.

•  TANEYCOMO: clear, one unit running from 3 to 5 p.m. daily; more generation on the weekends. Outlook: Lilleys’ Landing reports: trout good in the Trophy Area on No. 16 and No. 18 Zebra midge, scud flies when there isn’t much current and on microjigs under floats, soft-hackle flies, hopper patterns when there is current; and on Gulp eggs, inflated night crawlers below Fall Creek.

•  NORFORK: 80 degrees, murky, 7 feet low. Outlook: Bink’s Guide Service reports: bass good on topwater lures (Zara Spooks and Spook Juniors) in the first four hours of the morning; stripers poor to fair trolling hair jigs in 30 feet of water.

•  POMME DE TERRE: 77 degrees, clear on the main lake, dingy in the creeks, one-half foot low. Outlook: Pomme Muskie Guide Service reports: bass fair to good early on topwater lures; crappies fair to good on jigs, minnows 15 feet down in 25 feet of water in the brush; muskies fair on bucktails in the shallows; walleyes fair on deep-running crankbaits.

•  JACOMO: 77 degrees, clear, low. Outlook: Forty Woods Bait and Tackle reports: bluegills good on crickets, red wigglers along the banks; catfish poor to fair (a few are being caught at night).

•  REED AREA: 77 degrees, clear, low. Outlook: Missouri Department of Conservation reports: bluegills, redear sunfish fair on worms, jigs under bobbers early.

•  BLUE SPRINGS: 76 degrees, clear, 1 foot low. Outlook: Forty Woods Bait and Tackle reports: bluegills fair on crickets, red wigglers along the banks.

•  LONGVIEW: 76 degrees, 45-inch clarity, 3 feet low. Outlook: Longview Lake Marina reports: all species poor.

• MOZINGO: 75 degrees, clear, low. Outlook: Big Bird’s Bait and Archery reports: crappies, bass poor to fair (a few are being caught on minnows in deep water).

Kansas

•  GLEN ELDER: 78 degrees, clear, 3 feet low. Outlook: Little Bait Shop reports: crappies fair on jigs tipped with minnows 12 to 18 feet down in deep water in the brush (best area has been near Campground 3); white bass good on Kastmasters, Rat-L-Traps where fish are surfacing along northeast corner of the dam and in Walnut Creek arm; walleyes good on jigs with night crawlers drifted in 5 to 10 feet of water on the flats and off Sandy Beach Point; catfish fair to good on stink baits in areas that have been baited with soybeans.

•  WILSON: 77 degrees, clear, 21/4 feet low. Outlook: Knothead’s reports: bass good on crankbaits, minnows in the vegetation; catfish good on shrimp, liver, minnows, worms in the shallows; stripers good on spoons, black salties where fish are chasing shad along the banks in the coves; walleyes fair on jigs, worms on the flats.

•  PERRY: 78 degrees, clear, 3 feet low. Outlook: The Bait Hut reports: crappies fair on jigs in 10 to 15 feet of water in the brush; white bass good trolling crankbaits off the points; channel catfish good in areas that have been baited with soybeans.

•  MILFORD: 78 degrees, clear, 4 feet low. Outlook: Milford Lake Marina reports: white bass, wipers good on slab spoons along dropoffs and when fish are surfacing early and late; catfish fair.

•  LA CYGNE: 82 degrees, clear, 21/2 feet low. Outlook: Linn County Parks reports: white bass, wipers good where fish are surfacing early; blue catfish fair on fresh shad on rod and reel.

• EL DORADO: 77 degrees, clear, 2.4 feet low. Outlook: Wildlife, Parks and Tourism reports: white bass, wipers good on crankbaits, spoons, jigs where fish are surfacing; walleyes fair on jigs with night crawlers on the flats; crappies fair on jigs in shallow water on the humps.

• HILLSDALE: 75 degrees, murky, 3 feet low. Outlook: Jayhawk Marina reports: crappies fair on minnows in 5 to 10 feet of water in the brush and timber; catfish good on rod and reel with hot dogs.

•  COFFEY COUNTY: 94 degrees at the hot-water outlet, 80 degrees midlake, murky, low. Outlook: Coffey County reports: white bass fair where surfacing early and late.

•  TUTTLE CREEK: 77 degrees, stained, 5 feet low. Outlook: Guide Vic Oertle reports: white bass fair on Fishtech Double W spoons along dropoffs, humps and ditches; crappies fair on jigs in 10 feet of water in the brush; catfish fair on cut bait in 5 to 15 feet of water in the channel;

•  MELVERN: 78 degrees, clear, 2 feet low. Outlook: Melvern Lake Marina reports: crappies fair on jigs, minnows in brush; walleyes fair in 4 to 15 feet of water on the flats.

•  SHAWNEE MISSION: 76 degrees, 1- to 2-foot clarity, low. Outlook: Johnson County Park and Rec reports: catfish fair on liver, dough bait, green sunfish along the dam and on the flats; bass fair on crankbaits, jigs in the coves and along the dam; panfish fair on worms, spinners lakewide.

• HERITAGE: 74 degrees, murky, low. Outlook: Johnson County Park and Rec reports: catfish fair on liver, worms, dough bait; bass fair on plastic baits, spinnerbaits, jigs; panfish fair on jigs, minnows, worms.

• KILL CREEK: 84 degrees, clear, low. Outlook: Johnson County Park and Rec reports: catfish fair on liver, worms in the headwaters, on the north side and along the dam; bass fair on jigs, spinnerbaits on the north side and along the dam; panfish fair on minnows, worms lakewide.

•  POMONA: 72 degrees, clear, 1 foot low. Outlook: Lighthouse Bay Marina reports: crappies poor to fair (a few are being caught on jigs in the deep brush in the 110-Mile arm); catfish fair on a variety of baits.

• CLINTON: 80 degrees, clear, 2 feet low. Outlook: Clinton Lake Marina reports: all species poor.

•  WYANDOTTE: 77 degrees, clear, 2 feet low. Outlook: all species poor

Other area waters

•  BEAVER (ARK.): 77 degrees, very clear, low. Outlook: Bailey’s Beaver Lake Guide Service reports: stripers fair on live shad trolled on the main lake (fish are scattered; best fishing has been from Prairie Creek to the Starkey area); white bass, small stripers, hybrids fair to good on Kastmasters where fish are surfacing early and late.

•  GRAND (OKLA.): 78 degrees, clear, low. Outlook: Guide Ivan Martin reports: crappies good on jigs, minnows in the brush; bass good on drop-shot rigs in 15 feet of water; white bass fair to good on jigging spoons on main-lake humps, dropoffs.

•  WHITE RIVER (ARK.): clear, low, light power generation. Outlook: Gaston’s White River Resort reports: trout good on live redworms, night crawlers, Berkley Gulp trout worms, Rooster Tails, Little Cleos and Colorado spoons. Trout fishermen are using Western style hoppers, black parachute ants, beetles, midges and woolly buggers.
