Consider Hong Kong on round the world trips

If you're looking for round the world tickets and planning where to go, Hong Kong should be high on your list of places to visit.

This city is truly cosmopolitan and you will have the experience of a lifetime if you do decide to go on a cheap round the world trip that takes in Hong Kong.

To get to know the area, hop on the iconic tram, which will take you through the various districts of the island. Known by the locals as Ding Ding, the tram is an essential part of daily life in Hong Kong - and has been for over 100 years.

However, you can always walk around the city, which is a great way to really get a feel for the place.

Heading to the Central and Western District will reveal to you some of the newest and oldest parts of Hong Kong, while you can experience several of the old fishing traditions by making your way to the village of Shau Kei Wan on the north-eastern side of the island.

There are numerous sights you should prioritise, such as The Peak - the most popular attraction in Hong Kong. You'll get some great views of the city from here, as well as vistas of the stunningly green hillsides.

In addition, you shouldn't leave without heading out to see some of the outlying islands near Hong Kong. Lantau Island is the biggest of these, and here you will find wilderness trails, remote beaches, monuments and monasteries.

Make sure you take a picture or two of the Giant Buddha that can be found on the island - just take the cable car from Tung Chung Town, which is near the airport.

Other attractions here include SkyCity, which has around 100 retail and catering stores, as well as numerous entertainment areas.

You might also like to visit the island's stilt house community, where the Tanka people live. They are fishermen who have built their properties on stilts above tidal flats for years, as they do not feel that it is safe on land.

Cheung Chau Island is also worth a visit, as it is home to lots of butcher shops and market sellers hawking fresh seafood, vegetables, fruit and fish.
