Top 5 Summer Hiking Destinations Located in Maine’s Midcoast Region

Are you planning on taking a trip to Maine's Midcoast Region this summer? If so, I'd recommend that you bring your hiking boots along. There are several hiking destinations located in the area that I'd suggest that you consider visiting. Here's a quick look at each one:
Camden Hills State Park
Camden Hills State Park is located in Knox County. It features over 20 miles of summer hiking trails. What makes it a stand out in my book is the varied terrain. I'd suggest that hikers contemplate taking the .5 mile long Mount Battie Trail. It offers sweeping views of Penobscot Bay and an up close look at the famed Battie Quartzite. Other park highlights include the Ocean Lookout, Mount Megunticook and old carriage roads.
Warren Island State Park
Warren Island State Park is located in Waldo County. It features a 1.5 mile long hiking trail that covers most of the island. It is also considered part of the 375 mile long Maine Island Trail. Park highlights include abundant bird watching opportunities, an old burial site and the remnants of old buildings.
Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park
Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park is located in Cumberland County. It features over 4 miles of trails that offer incredible bird watching opportunities. Hikers should definitely bring their high-powered binoculars along for the trek. One path worth exploring is the 0.5 mile long White Pine Trail. It is not a strenuous trail, but it does provide excellent views of nesting ospreys. Additional park highlights include views of Casco Bay and the Harrasseket River.
Whaleback Shell Midden
Whaleback Shell Midden is located in Lincoln County. What its 0.5 mile long summer hiking trail lacks in mileage and intensity, it more than makes up for in interesting scenery. At least that's my opinion. Of course large shell middens like the ones that once covered the park have always fascinated me. The park's trail also provides views of the Damariscotta River and an apple orchard.
Dodge Point Public Reserved Land
Dodge Point Public Reserved Land is located in Lincoln County. It features more than 4 miles of hiking trails. I'd suggest that hikers looking to break a sweat consider taking the 1.2 mile long Ravine Trail. It is moderately strenuous in spots and offers ample opportunities for personal reflection and bird watching. Hikers seeking a less strenuous trek may want to contemplate taking the 1.5 mile long Shore Trail instead. It winds along the Damariscotta River, passes by multiple beaches and also offers opportunities for bird watching.
